RE: Launching a boat with a class C

This has been a great thread.
I think I am ready to launch the boat this weekend.
A526051, that ramp looks pretty mild as compared to ones we have in Arizona when the water is low. The angled back of your MH looks like a good thing to have when launching and trying to avoid water in the back.

RE: Launching a boat with a class C

That is a great picture.
The articles says that the brakes failed when the boat came loose. This could happen to anyone. If it was a truck launching a boat rather than a MH, the truck would have been in the water unless you got it in gear quick enough.
I assume that MHs brakes are no more susceptible to fail than truck's when you get the back of the MH in the water. I may be wrong on this one.

RE: Launching a boat with a class C

We have a backup camera so getting to the water should be easier. Getting the bays wet may be a problem for us. Our mh sits quite low.

Launching a boat with a class C

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience and tips on launching a boat (19 ft) with a Class C. Our mh is an 05 Gulfstream 32 ft long. It is setup for towing but one of my concerns is the turn halfway down the ramp on a very steep ramp.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Lake Powell w/ MH and boat in tow. What's the best way ?

Hello,
We are planning a trip to Lake Powell this weekend. We are taking a 32ft Class C w/ a 19ft boat in tow. We were thinking of staying at Wahweap Campground RV Park.
We were wondering what the best way to do things is at Lake Powell. Is there a better place to launch/camp w/ full hookups ?
Does the Wahweap Campground RV park have a convenient Marina ?
Can you rent a slip ?
Is this time of the year too hot ? Temps appear to be reasonable.
Any suggestion on how to best handle this adventure would be appreciated. We have camped for many years but we have never taken the boat to Lake Powell and the MH.

Towing ATVs w/ Class C. Advise needed

Hello everyone,
We have an 05 Gulfstream 32ft Class C and we are planning to buy a couple of ATVs to keep the kids out of trouble. We are debating whether an enclosed trailer is a better choice than a regular trailer. We are leaning towards the regular non-enclosed trailer for a few reasons:
1. Can park in garage
2. Less maintenance
3. Cheaper
4. Lighter
The disadvantage is that it is not enclosed (rain, theft)
Any thoughts ?

RE: Slideout adjustment

I tried adjusting mine and hurt my back in the process, really.
That thing is heavy and some of the adjustments require jacking up the slideout. In my MH (Gulfstream/Class C w/ Equalizer slideout), I had a bar going all the way along the slideout for horizontal adjustments. The vertical adjustments were found where the room attached to the slideout mechanism.
My advise is that you take it to a dealer and have them adjust it as soon as possible. I waited a long time, researched the heck out of it on how to adjust it, made an attempt at making the adjustment, made things worst and finally my hydraulic motor gave up on me. If the thing is out of alignment, your motor may be working harded than needed and could give up on you as well.
Good luck.

RE: Where do you take your MH for service?

Any recommendations for Phoenix, Az ?
I am paying 100-120/hr for someone at a dealership to work on it. Basically different people everytime that do nothing but call the manufacturers to help them troublehshoot so they can charge you an arm and a leg.
It would be nice to find someone dependable that knows what they are doing and have affordable rates.

RE: slide-out problem question

My problem was similar. The culprit was the motor. In my case, the motor could not be replaced so they had to do the entire hydraulic pump assembly. Ouch...
You may want to visit your manufacturer's website to see if they have any other troubleshooting docs. One thing I did with mine was to put power directly to the motor. If the motor moves the slideout w/o hesitation, you may have something else going on. Check voltage at the motor to make sure you don't have a bad ground/power source somewhere.

RE: How do you keep you C cool ?

Thanks Dave,
I may try to install another unit in the front. At $200 a piece, I just wanted to make sure that it would make a difference.
I am not too thrilled with the amount of air (in or out) that my current Turbo Maxx is putting out. A regular small/portable household fan on slow setting moves more wind that the roof mounted Turbo Maxx at high.

RE: How do you keep you C cool ?

Thanks Bill,
I am doing this up a 8000 ft. The outside temp was 70, inside 80. There is no point in running any kind of fan in 110 degree weather.
I agree w/ you on the screen but if I remove it, specially at night, who knows what kind of creatures will try to get in. Has anyone used the Turbo Maxx w/o screens ? Any issues w/ junk coming in ?

RE: New Dometic Recall Initiated March 11, 2008

Hello everyone,
I somehow missed this thread. I have one of the recalled units so I am heading to the dealer next week. My problems, which may or may not be related are:
1. Insufficient cooling
2. LP Gas detector going off
I am outraged to hear that this company has acknowledged a problem with one of their products and won't repair and/or replaced a failed cooling unit unless the fridge is under warranty. This is ridiculous and very serious. Instead of just writing here, we should all visit the NHTSA website and complain there.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
If there is a recall because there could be a failure, the recall should replace the part that could fail, not shield it so it doesn't explode on us. All units in the recall are part of the recall for a reason. Dometic knows that sooner or later the parts involved will fail.
If anyone wants to start a class action, sign me up.

Refrigerator not cold enough. Are they all the same way?

Hello everyone,
We have had 2 Class C MH and 1 Trailer w/ a mix of refrigerator type. All of them 1-5 yrs old at most. In all instances, the bottom part of our fridge would 'barely' be cold enough to keep milk from spoiling. The top would freeze foods after 2-3 days running.
All these units were relatively new, coils etc... very clean yet cooling w/ propane left a lot to be desire. Our most recent unit, a Dometic on a 2005 Class C, barely has enough cooling power to keep water cool in a hot summer day.
Is this your experience ?

Nissan Titan and Toyhauler. Anyone ???

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone is pulling a toyhauler w/ a Nissan Titan.
If so, I would be interested in knowing what kind/model and what do you carry ? Do you like the way it tows ? Any dislikes ?
We used to have a 29ft Jayco Jayflight and it worked great w/ the Titan. We are now considering a lightweigth toyhauler to carry 2 ATVs.

How do you keep you C cool ?

I recently added a Turbo Maxx to the back of my 32 Ft Class C. I was hoping to be able to make the inside temp match the outside temperature in the summer. To my surprise and even after running for hrs, my outside temp during the day isually 7-9 degrees warmer no matter how long and hard I run the thing. Is this what everyone experiences ?
I have tons of sliding windows. All of them are opened.
I usually run the Turbo Maxx at full speed exhausting the air from the unit. You can barely feel anything that way. I was hoping that over time, it would bring enough outside air in that things will equalize but it isn't so.
When you run the unit blowing outside air in, you do feel the breeze (not much) when you are directly below it. Is this a better way to cool the inside ? Should I just exhaust for a few minutes to get the hot air on top out and reverse ?

Turbo Maxx w/ or w/o Vent Cover

Hello,
I installed a Turbo Maxx a few weeks ago. I noticed that air circulating into the bedroom is not as strong as it used to be when we had a fantastic fan. I would venture to say that the vent cover, which I raise when I use the fan, may have something to do with it. Given the height of the Turbo Maxx, you cannot open this vent fully so a lot of the air is blowing around and over the vent.
I was wondering if people installing the Turbo Maxx have permanently removed the lid cover for the vents where the Turbo Maxx sits on. The issue with this would be cold night and/or use of A/C.

RE: Will Class C Motorhomes Survive?

My 2 cents is that this is just a cycle and like every cycle, it starts and it ends. High fuel costs means people travel shorter distances and those fulltiming hang around places a bit longer.
I don't believe in the airlines will disappear, MHs will vanish, trucks will cease to exist or the sky is falling theories. This country needs cheaper gas to keep the machinery running. It is very basic need. We cannot afford to have gas at price levels that will hurt the economy longer term. MHs and recreational vehicle most likely represent a very small percentage of gas usage.
After all don't we own IRAQ and doesn't Kuwait owes us a big favor. We seem to enjoy punishing ourselves. My guess is that someone is getting rich at the expense of many of us. Something like price of crude oil jumps $3/barrel, Unleaded jumps 20 cents/gal for a long time. Price of crude oild drops $16/barrel, unleaded drops 1 cent/gal for 1 day. It is hard to believe how prices at the pump are being manipulated.

RE: Help Troubleshooting Slide Out problem !!!

Yes, I can and have been doing the manual operation to open and close the slide. It is a real pain because of the way they setup the pump. It is right next to the batteries and I have to remove them in order to operate the slide manually. We are home now so I am just trying to see if I can fix this myself before forking out hundreds of dollars to a dealer.
I have been doing some Internet searches on the motor but I am not sure where to start. Basic searches of 'slide out motor' come up w/ nothing useful. I will look around the motor to see if I can find a brand, name, specs etc...
Thanks again for taking the time to respond at this late hour.

RE: Help Troubleshooting Slide Out problem !!!

Thanks Gale,
I will take the readings tomorrow and report back.
I have a feeling the motor may be the issue.
Does anyone here know a good place to find a used replacement motor ? These things seem to be expensive when new.
